During an official visit to Stockholm, Bosnia and Herzegovina Presidency Chair Denis Becirovic met with Swedish Foreign Minister Tobias Billstrom. This visit marks a significant milestone as the first official trip by the Bosnian Presidency to Sweden since the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two nations in 1992.

In discussions with Minister Billstrom, Becirovic highlighted the pressing political and security challenges facing Bosnia and the broader region. He expressed gratitude to Sweden for its ongoing support, particularly commending Billstrom for backing the European Council's decision to initiate EU membership talks with Bosnia and Herzegovina. Becirovic stressed that BiH's accession to the European Union and NATO is a strategic move to enhance peace, democracy, and stability in the region.

The Presidency Chair also underscored the importance of Sweden's recent NATO membership, emphasizing that BiH's path to joining the alliance is a key national objective. “Northern Europe is much safer after the entry of Sweden and Finland into NATO,” Becirovic remarked. “The Western Balkans remains a vulnerable point in Europe's security framework, making it crucial to accelerate Bosnia and Herzegovina's NATO integration.”

Swedish Foreign Minister Tobias Billstrom recognized the significance of Becirovic's visit and called for deeper cooperation between the two countries’ leaderships. He reaffirmed Sweden's strong support for Bosnia's independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity, emphasizing Sweden's dedication to maintaining peace and stability in the region. Billstrcm also highlighted Sweden's recent decision to join EUFOR (ALTHEA) on the 28th anniversary of the Dayton Peace Agreement, signalling an enhanced commitment to Bosnia and Herzegovina's security.

Both leaders agreed that relations between Bosnia and Sweden are friendly and robust, grounded in mutual respect. They expressed a shared desire to strengthen economic ties and expand cooperation in other areas.
