Chairman of tripartite Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Denis Becirovic, met with the President of the Federal Republic of Germany, Frank-Walter Steinmeier, on the first day of his official visit to Germany.
Becirovic was received at Bellevue Palace in Berlin, the residence of the German president, with the highest state and military honors.
During the substantive and open discussion, Becirovic emphasized that the relations between Bosnia and Herzegovina and Germany are exceptionally good and friendly, with Germany having proven itself many times as a great friend and ally to Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Becirovic highlighted the importance of adopting a resolution to recognize July 11 as an International Day of Remembrance and Commemoration of the Genocide in Srebrenica, which took place in 1995. He thanked President Steinmeier for Germany's support in activities and measures against genocide denial, hate speech, and the glorification of war crimes in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Becirovic also pointed out Germany's critical role in supporting Bosnia in its European and Euro-Atlantic integration processes. He noted that Germany has been a key advocate of Bosnia's European path, demonstrated by its support for opening EU membership negotiations with Bosnia. Becirovic emphasized the importance of Germany's proactive role in this context.
German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier reiterated Germany's unwavering support for the independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of Bosnia and Herzegovina. He stressed that any threat to the Dayton Peace Agreement and Bosnia's constitutional order is unacceptable. During the discussion, the importance of Germany's active role in the Western Balkans’ EU accession process was underscored.
The talks also touched on the security issues in Bosnia and the Western Balkans in general. It was emphasized that regional stability is crucial for the stability of Europe as a whole, and that Bosnia and Herzegovina and Germany must continue to cooperate closely on these matters.
Bosnia and Germany share traditionally strong political and economic ties. Besides economic cooperation, there is significant collaboration in the field of culture. The two countries have a tradition of celebrating and promoting cultural events, as well as exchanging knowledge and experiences in the field of education. Becirovic also mentioned that the sizable Bosnian diaspora in Germany serves as an important link between the two countries.
