BiH Armed Forces continue firefighting operations across the country
Following their deployment over the past several days to fire sites in the areas of Bosansko Grahovo, Mount Pljesevica near Bihac, Bosanski Petrovac–Grmec and Nevesinje, the Armed Forces of Bosnia and Herzegovina (AFBiH) are continuing firefighting operations today, in line with the needs and assessments of the relevant authorities.
The crew of the AFBiH 1st Helicopter Squadron is continuing firefighting operations in the area of the Municipality of Bosansko Grahovo. At the same time, 22 AFBiH personnel remain deployed at the fire site near Nevesinje.
Pursuant to an order issued by the BiH Minister of Defence on August 20, 2026, the use of AFBiH resources to fight fires in the wider area of the City of Gorazde and the territory of the Municipality of Pale in the Federation of BiH has been approved. The deployment of AFBiH helicopters to the aforementioned fire sites will depend on safety and weather conditions.
Yesterday afternoon, the crew of the 2nd Helicopter Squadron conducted reconnaissance of the aforementioned fire sites.
However, because the fire has spread to a minefield, the use of helicopters in the area is not possible for safety reasons until further notice.
