Daniel Koski, Deputy Head of Mission at the U.S. Embassy in Bosnia and Herzegovina, handed over a patrol boat, the GENERAL MAX 2, with a 75 kW outboard motor, aluminum body, and trailer, worth USD 83,335, to the Director of the Bosnia and Herzegovina Border Police, Mirko Kuprešaković, in Sarajevo today.
This donation is part of the US State Department’s Export Control and Border Security (EXBS) Program, announced the BiH Border Police.
Deputy Head of Mission Koski stated that the U.S. and BiH share important goals, including combating the smuggling of weapons, dual-use goods, explosives, dangerous materials, and weapons of mass destruction, and that they must work together to prevent threats posed by such goods from becoming a reality.
“Through the EXBS program, the U.S. Embassy proudly delivers this custom-made shallow water boat to the BiH Border Police today, valued at over USD 80,000. This boat will help secure Bosnia and Herzegovina’s river borders against the illegal movement of people and goods,” Koski said, adding that the U.S. Government provides technical assistance and sophisticated equipment to partners like BiH and around the world.
He emphasized that such policies benefit BiH, its neighbours, and the region.
He also noted that this patrol boat complements the US efforts to make BiH safer, which will positively impact the entire region.
The Director of the Bosnia and Herzegovina Border Police, Mirko Kupresakovic, thanked the U.S. Government for the donated patrol boat and its long-standing support to the Border Police.
“The U.S. Government has continuously supported the Bosnia and Herzegovina Border Police for over two decades. All previous donations, including this one, which have been provided to us by our friendly country, with a total value of nearly 16 million KM in specialized equipment, have been extremely significant in improving our operational effectiveness. This donation, within the EXBS program, will further enhance the capacities of the Bosnia and Herzegovina Border Police in monitoring the ‘blue’ border and carrying out daily tasks,” Kupresakovic stated.
He added that this would reflect in more effective prevention of illegal migration, the fight against drug, weapon, human, and excise goods trafficking, as well as the battle against all forms of cross-border crime.
