The Minister of Transport and Communications of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Edin Forto, and the General Director of BHRT, Belmin Karamehmedovic, signed an agreement according to the earlier decision of the Council of Ministers, to allocate four million Bosnian marks (some €2 million) to this public broadcaster.
“Along with other obligations, a sustainable public service is an essential prerequisite for Bosnia and Herzegovina's entry into the EU. This is not a permanent solution to the sustainability issue, but it is the support that BHRT needs in this difficult period. In addition to private media, BiH must have something that comes under the auspices of the state of BiH, namely public services, such as BHRT, and therefore finding sustainable financing is of great importance,” Forto said.
He noted that it is necessary to organize the collection and distribution of the TV tax within the FBiH.
Namely, a new attempt at an agreement between BHRT and FTV was announced for Wednesday, organized by Elektroprivreda BiH.
General Director of BHRT Belmin Karamehmedovic pointed out that the funds that should be transferred from the Council of Ministers are important for BHRT.
BHRT found itself in a difficult situation after December 31, 2023, when Elektroprivreda BiH stopped collecting the TV tax on the territory of the Federation (FBiH) entity because the contract was not extended.
