The Court of BiH sentenced Milarem Berbic to three years in prison Wednesday for joining the terrorist organization ISIS, the Court said adding that this is only the first instance verdict.

The indictment charged Berbic with leaving Bosnia on August 29, 2014, and travelling to Turkey, from where he illegally moved to Syria with the intention of joining foreign formations fighting legitimate military forces in Syria, where he joined Goran Pavlovic's unit fighting on the side of ISIS, after which he was captured by Kurdish forces.

During his stay in Syria, the Prosecution claimed, Berbic was filmed for propaganda videos of this terrorist organization.
Berbic did not attend the sentencing of the first instance verdict due to medical reasons, as Judge Dzemila Begovic explained.

He is one of the seven BiH citizens who were extradited from Syria in December 2019 on suspicion that they fought there on the side of organizations that the UN declared to be terrorist.

Berbic has the possibility of appeal to the Appellate Panel of the Court of BiH as this is only the first instance verdict.
