Bosnia’s Foreign Minister Elmedin Konakovic said Tuesday in Potocari, at the Srebrenica genocide commemoration, that genocide denial is one of the biggest Bosnian, European and global problems.
“I cannot fathom people who can raise their children to tell them that someone who can shoot a small child or shoot a pregnant woman can be a role model or a hero. They need to explain this to themselves and their generations, and they send us a message of how vigilant and sober we need to be because the perpetrators of these foreign crimes are still alive and very active,” said Konakovic.
The Resident Coordinator of the United Nations in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Ingrid Macdonald, also came to Potocari to pay her respects to the victims of the genocide.
She said that it is important to recognize the suffering of all victims and survivors.
“This is a day for them and the survivors. It is important to recognize the horrors they went through, but also the fact that international courts have established without a doubt that genocide took place in these areas. It is important to show respect and appreciation and to share their pain with them,” she said.
