A municipality in the northeastern Bosnia and Herzegovina has declared the state of natural disaster Friday evening due to the flooding caused by torrential rain that hit the area over the past days.

Municipal authorities in Celic called for caution and asked the locals to do their best to protect their lives and property.

The Civil Protection authorities also issued orders for the communal and construction services for the protection and rescue of people and material goods.

“According to the initial estimates, at least 200 residential and other buildings in the municipality were flooded. Also, several farms were demolished, and water was carrying cars. We immediately hired several companies with mechanisation, along with the utility companies, to clean the access roads and bridges,” said mayor Admir Hrustanovic.

The eastern municipality Zvornik is also struggling with floods, where large parts of the arable land were flooded.

Locals were adviced to be prepared for more rainfalls on Saturday.
