BiH Presidency Chair Becirovic meets UN Secretary-General António Guterres In New York

Chair of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina Denis Becirovic met with United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres at UN Headquarters in New York to discuss progress, bilateral cooperation, and regional security challenges.

During the meeting, Becirovic highlighted significant concrete results achieved over the past three years. Key milestones included the adoption of the UN General Assembly Resolution proclaiming July 11 as the International Day of Reflection and Commemoration of the 1995 Genocide in Srebrenica, the installation of the Srebrenica Flower memorial at UN Headquarters, and the establishment of a dedicated UN Outreach Programme aimed at preserving the truth about the genocide against Bosniaks. The Presidency member thanked Secretary-General Guterres for his continuous support in implementing these initiatives.
The two officials also assessed the current political and security situation in Bosnia and developments across the Western Balkans. Becirovic stressed the irreplaceable role of the United Nations in strengthening international security, stability, and multilateralism. He reaffirmed Bosnia's commitment to preserving peace, strengthening democratic institutions, protecting human rights, and advancing reforms aimed at state functionality and Euro-Atlantic integration.
Secretary-General António Guterres stated that Srebrenica remains a painful, enduring warning that genocide must never happen again anywhere. He emphasized that honoring the victims requires preserving historical truths and resolutely combating genocide denial and revisionism. Guterres concluded by reaffirming that the United Nations remains strongly committed to supporting the peace, stability, and economic development of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
