BiH Presidency member Denis Becirovic condemns Israeli attack on Qatar

“Israel’s assault on the independent and sovereign State of Qatar represents a gross breach of international law. I strongly condemn the use of force to resolve disputes. The armed attack against Qatar further complicates an already dire situation in the Middle East. The politics of force and violence run contrary to the fundamental principles of international law and constitute a flagrant violation of the United Nations Charter,” Becirovic stated.

He emphasised that Bosnia, as a full member of the UN, firmly supports respect for international law norms.

“Our country is committed to resolving disagreements through dialogue and peaceful means, in line with international law. Peace is a universal and invaluable value that must be promoted across all regions. Qatar’s engaged role in seeking solutions to the highly sensitive issues of peace in Gaza and the Middle East has been undermined by Israel’s armed actions against its peace mission, which could have serious consequences for regional stability,” Becirovic noted.

He added that Bosnia and Herzegovina’s foreign policy is based on “peaceful cooperation, the promotion of dialogue, openness, equality, and respect for constitutional principles, sovereignty, territorial integrity, and the rule of law in all relations with international partners.”

“I express full solidarity and support to the Emir of Qatar, His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, as well as to the people of Qatar,” Becirovic concluded.

The condemnation follows Israel’s airstrike on Hamas leaders in Qatar on Tuesday, marking an expansion of Israeli military operations across the Middle East into the Gulf state where Hamas has long maintained a political presence.

Qatar, which has acted as a mediator alongside Egypt in ceasefire talks during the nearly two-year war in Gaza, denounced the attack as cowardly and a flagrant violation of international law.

According to Qatar’s Interior Ministry, one member of its internal security forces was killed and several others were injured in the Israeli strike on Doha.

The operation has sparked strong international reactions.
