Dervo Sejdic, the appellant in the case against BiH before the human rights court was among the first citizens to call for protests against the announced measures that could be imposed by High Representative Christian Schmidt. He spent the entire previous night in front of the OHR building, and today, with mixed feelings, he says: "The only ones sanctioned will be the citizens!"

“I am happy because a large number of people gathered at the protests but also unhappy because the high representative did not address us. We expect him to say what he has – either he will impose the changes, or he won’t. Citizens will protest until he speaks,” one of the initiators of the gathering, Dervo Sejdic told N1.

He recalled that Schmidt's plan is not in line with European or democratic principles, and therefore not with all five judgments of the Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg.

“It is something that doesn’t exist in any EU country and beyond,” he noted.

According to Sejdic, Schmidt was invited by the gathered citizens to use the Bonn powers in another way, much more useful for Bosnia and Herzegovina.

“You have the denial of him as an authority and the rejection of his decisions by the Republika Srpska National Assembly, hundreds of actions that deserve sanctions, all the while he doesn’t sanction anyone,” Sejdic said.

On the other hand, the absence of a larger gathering of citizens for the other existential problems is seen in the lack of civic solidarity.

Sejdic returned from the N1 studio in front of the OHR building where he will continue with the protests and where about a hundred citizens are waiting for him. They raised signs saying: “We are not tribes!”. The invitation to all other citizens to come is open, while, on the other hand, political leaders are not expected to come Tuesday.

It would only be fair, Sejdic concluded, to continue discussing this topic after the October general elections.
