Police in Bosnia’s Republika Srpska (RS) entity arrested nine people as part of a crackdown on drug trafficking and among them is one inspector from the RS Interior Ministry.
The crackdown is part of a state-wide police operation. More than 20 locations are being searched across the country.
“One of our inspectors, who was suspended earlier, was arrested this morning. What’s worse, according to some information we have, won’t be the only one,” said RS Interior Minister Dragan Lukac.
He urged other agencies to also start cleaning up their ranks, especially in relation to drug trafficking.
“All members of the Interior Ministry who have any connection regarding aiding criminals, cooperating with them or in any way participating in criminal acts will be arrested. No one will be forgiven and nothing will be covered up,” he said.
“In this way, I am telling them to prepare because we will find them. First of all, we want to clean up in front of our doorstep, then the whole of RS, because we have to fight against the most serious crimes, and that is certainly organized crime and drug abuse,” Lukac said.
