The ambitious Bihac Airport project has reached its final pre-preparatory stage, with a formal construction permit expected within the next month. This milestone signals that the decades-long infrastructural endeavour is ready to transition into concrete realization, potentially ending the long-standing traffic isolation of the Una-Sana Canton.

Anel Hadzic, Director of P.E. Aerodrom Bihac, emphasized that this is a strategic project capable of establishing a new economic corridor. "The project has reached the final pre-preparatory phase following extensive procedures. We are currently completing the requirements for the construction permit, which we expect in the next 30 days," Hadzic stated.

Despite numerous administrative hurdles, Bihac Airport remains Bosnia’s only strategic project to possess complete project-technical documentation. Hadzic explained that while major obstacles regarding inconsistent state-level legal regulations have been successfully overcome, the primary challenge now is securing the necessary capital.

"We can now say we have documentation ready for investment. However, what is currently missing are the financial resources to announce public procurement and begin the initial works at the Golubic location," noted Hadzic. He clarified that tender procedures cannot be initiated without guaranteed funding, making support from higher levels of government critical.

Given the poor state of road and rail infrastructure in the Una-Sana Canton, Hadzic concluded that the airport represents the most viable development opportunity currently nearing realization for the region.
