Boarding house "Misirlije", which is fondly remembered by many foreign and domestic post-war visitors to Srebrenica, will continue its work in a new guise after being closed for three years, under a new name and with the old owner.

Before the war, Srebrenica was a spa-tourist resort with 90,000 overnight stays per year. War devastation and post-war privatization put all the hotels and motels in the city out of business. Boarding house Misirlije was opened by Abdulah Purkovic “Dulo,” a famous gastronome and culinary professor after he returned with his family to his native Srebrenica after the war.

Three years later, following a complete renovation, the boarding house is in the midst of preparations for the continuation of work, Avdo Purkovic said.

“We renovated everything, painted, refurbished it all, did a lot of small repairs, replaced the inventory with new furniture in the halls and rooms with new beds and bedding. More new equipment is arriving as of today and we are in the final phase of the works. Since the beginning of February, we have been following the process of re-registration and obtaining all the necessary work permits, and if everything goes according to plan, we could receive the first guests from the first of March at the latest,” he noted.

In addition to new equipment and other details, boarding house Misirlje will also change its name.

“My intention is to start under a new name, instead of Misirlija, the boarding house will bear the name Silver City in the future. Everything is new, only the owner is old”, he added.

The living situation in Srebrenica has been getting worse in recent years, many people, especially the youth, have left and are continuing to leave every day. Small craft and service businesses, as well as large companies and factories with many workers, are being closed, leaving Srebrenica without a single kiosk, a butcher, a bakery, a pastry shop, a shoe store, a clothing store, and much more for years…

Despite everything, Purkovic is an optimist.

Boarding house Silver City, as it will be called in the future, offers accommodation for 40 guests in twenty rooms with several suites. It has a large restaurant hall for dining and the organization of various events, as well as a small hall in which many different seminars, workshops, etc. were held in previous years, organized by foreign and domestic non-governmental and other organizations.
