Bosnia’s Representative at the UN, Ambassador Sven Alkalaj, and Kingdom of Tonga's Representative, Va'inga Tōnē, signed the Joint Statement on the Establishment of Diplomatic Relations between the two countries on Thursday.
The signing took place at the Permanent Mission of BiH to the United Nations in New York.
The two exchanged opinions on the potential for improvement and intensification of bilateral cooperation, as well as on current topics within the UN. They reiterated full support for multilateral efforts for the full implementation of the 2030 Agenda, i.e. achievement of 17 sustainable development goals, with a special emphasis on activities in the fight against climate change.
Bosnia and Herzegovina has so far established diplomatic relations with 183 UN member states, and intensive diplomatic communication is conducted with the remaining 9 UN members.
