Bosnia and Herzegovina’s Foreign Minister Elmedin Konakovic met with Qatar’s Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani on December 15, 2024, during an official visit to Doha.
Both sides emphasized the strong, friendly bilateral relations between Bosnia and Qatar, noting the absence of unresolved issues.
Minister Konakovic expressed gratitude to Qatar for its support in adopting the UN General Assembly resolution on the International Day of Remembrance and Genocide Commemoration in Srebrenica. He invited the Qatari Prime Minister to attend the 30th anniversary of the Srebrenica genocide. Konakovic also thanked Qatar for assisting in evacuating Bosnian citizens from Gaza during the October violence last year.
Highlighting the potential for economic collaboration, Konakovic discussed opportunities in energy, tourism, water production, organic and halal food, infrastructure, and the defense industry. He also proposed joint ventures in product development and partnerships for third-market opportunities.
During the meeting, Konakovic congratulated Qatar on its National Day, celebrated on December 18, marking the country’s unification in 1878.
Qatar’s Prime Minister acknowledged 31 years of bilateral relations and emphasized the strong, friendly ties between the nations. He expressed Qatar’s continued support for Bosnia and a keen interest in enhancing economic cooperation.
The meeting also covered contractual agreements, multilateral cooperation, Bosnia’s integration and reform efforts, and current geopolitical challenges.
