Bosnia and Turkey reaffirm ties in New York as Konakovic raises regional concerns

Both ministers noted that there are no open bilateral issues and pledged to continue regular political dialogue. Discussions focused on regional security and European integration across the Western Balkans. Minister Konakovic thanked Turkey for its unwavering support for Bosnia and Herzegovina’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, and multiethnic character.

Konaković briefed Fidan on internal political challenges in Bosnia and Herzegovina, particularly secessionist policies that undermine state institutions. He highlighted that functional state authority and adherence to the constitutional order remain essential for stability and EU integration.

The ministers also addressed regional reconciliation efforts. Konaković expressed deep concern over the recent glorification of convicted war criminal Ratko Mladić, specifically referencing the participation of senior Serbian officials in activities connected to his funeral. He warned that glorifying convicted criminals and denying judicially established facts severely harms victim dignity, regional stability, and good-neighbourly relations.

Minister Fidan reiterated that Turkey prioritises peace, stability, and institutional functionality in Bosnia and Herzegovina, noting that responsible political action and dialogue are vital for overcoming regional security challenges.

Additionally, both ministers agreed to expand economic cooperation, focusing on trade, tourism, industrial investments, and infrastructure development to strengthen commercial ties between the two countries.
