Bosnia Armed Forces contain threatening wildfires near Bihac using ingenious zip-line water delivery

Units from the 2nd Infantry Battalion of the 6th Infantry Brigade spent days battling blazes across Mount Plesevica and the Zegar district. On Mount Plesevica alone, the fire swept across 70,000 square metres of forest before military teams managed to establish a perimeter, operating without the relief of anticipated rainfall.

Operations on the ground presented formidable obstacles, driven by treacherous, steep gradients and severe water supply logistics, while aerial sorties faced the constant hazard of legacy minefields remaining from the conflict. To overcome these barriers, troops constructed a bespoke zip-line system to transport water over a 400-metre span directly to the active fire front.

The Ministry of Defence confirmed that military helicopters provided crucial aerial support throughout the multi-day deployment. Personnel and equipment remained fully mobilised on Thursday to monitor hotspots and assist civilian authorities as required.
