The United States is Bosnia's most important political partner despite different views on the war in Gaza, Foreign Minister of Bosnia and Herzegovina Elmedin Konakovic said on Monday in Doha, where he is attending Doha Forum at the invitation of Qatar authorities.
“This does not mean that we agree with everything they (the US) do. I expect the US government to react and actually insist on the Israeli side to stop it, to stop the killings in Palestine,” Konakovic told Al Jazeera.
He drew a parallel between what is happening in Gaza and what happened in Bosnia and Herzegovina during the 1990s war, saying that the Bosniaks in particular, who were persecuted during the Bosnian war, have a great sympathy for the people of Gaza.
“It is really hard to see these pictures. I condemned the October 7 attack by Hamas, but this cannot by any means be the reason for Israel to kill civilians, destroy mosques, churches and hospitals,” he said.
The 21st Doha Forum, held under the slogan ‘Building Shared Futures’, is taking place on 10-11 December, and FM Konakovic is attending the event at the invitation of Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the State of Qatar, Mohammed bih Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani
Konakovic took part in the panel Towards a Multilayered World: Rethinking Alliances’. In his address, he emphasised that today we live in the world that is changing the fastest in the history of mankind, where challenges suddenly appear, and in many cases have a global impact.
He also spoke about Bosnia's Euro-Atlantic path, the geopolitical significance of the Western Balkans, the Berlin process and regional cooperation, expressing the country's commitment to be a part of the EU and the importance of dialogue in order to build a brighter future, both in BiH and other cases such as Ukraine and Gaza.
