Saturday marks the 29th anniversary since Bosnia’s flag was raised in front of the United Nations building in East River, New York, after the country became a full member on May 22, 1992, per a resolution adopted two days prior.
Croatia and Slovenia were admitted to the UN on the same day as well, and the then Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina – Haris Silajdzic, addressed the UN General Assembly, and the reception was also attended by the Chairman of the then State Presidency Alija Izetbegovic.
The flag, which was adopted on May 4, 1992, for the flag of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina, was based on the flag of medieval Bosnia and the Bosnian Kotromanic dynasty. The flag was rectangular in shape, white with the coat of arms of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina in the middle. The ratio of the width and length of the flag was one to two. It was first officially unveiled on May 22, 1992, in front of the UN building in New York City.
On this occasion, Ingrid Macdonald, the UN Resident Coordinator for BiH published several photos marking key events during Bosnia's UN membership.

With the accession of Bosnia to the UN 29 years ago, Bosnia met all the basic preconditions of legal and any other nature, to establish economic, cultural and any other relations with the rest of the world, according to its possibilities and needs.
This date is considered as one of the most important ones in the country's modern history.
