Bosnia paravolley association covers accommodation costs for Ukrainian team

Athletes from various sports and nationalities have continued showing solidarity with Ukraine following the war in that country, with the latest example of that coming from Bosnia and Herzegovina. Representatives of Bosnia Sitting Volleyball Association joined the national teams of Slovenia and Germany as well as the World Paravolley association and made it possible for the Ukrainian team to take part in the Sitting Volleyball World Championship 2022, which is taking place in Sarajevo.

The Bosnian paravolley association proved to be a great host of the competition. With the help of other national teams and associations, it provided financial support and accommodation for the Ukrainians.

“One of our priorities as we prepared for the event was to help the Ukrainian sport. Although the expenses of the event were significant, we primarily helped them financially. As hosts, we covered the costs of their accommodation, and we're happy that their athletes are participating in the competition,” said event manager Senad Helac, who stressed that the World Paravolley association commended the hosts for successfully organising the event.

World Paravolley President Barry Couzner noted that the most important value of the sports is its contribution to the community and peace. He praised the support that the host and other national teams showed to the Ukrainians.

“This is an incredible success and nicely illustrates how the sports can make the world a better place,” he stressed.

Representatives of the national teams of Slovenia and Germany helped the Ukrainian team to prepare for the competition.

“When the world in Ukraine started we offered them to come to the training centre in Slovenia. They said no at that time. But two weeks prior to the World Championship they came there so we trained together. I must say that the moment I saw them here at the competition I was moved and almost started crying,” said Branko Mihorko, assistant coach for the Slovenia national team.

Juergen Schrapp, a member of the German team, was also happy to have the Ukrainians in the competition.

“They showed the great will to compete and represent their country. Europe wants the war in Ukraine to end as soon as possible so that our fellow athletes can go back to normal life,” he added.
