The Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina gave a green light for the proposed task group in charge of negotiations with Frontex and the framework for the talks, Security Minister Nenad Nesic told N1.
The Presidency adopted the proposal in an extraordinary session on Thursday evening, with this subject as the only item of agenda.
Launching the talks with Frontex is one of the conditions set before Bosnian authorities towards the opening of the accession talks with the European Union. This was earlier confirmed in N1 interview with Angelina Eichhorst, managing director for Europe and Central Asia at the European External Action Service.
Speaking to public broadcaster RTRS, Nesic said that this brings the country closer to the EU.
“Migrations are something that poses one of the main security threats, and this makes our services more capable and prepared for response. This is another way to confirm that Bosnia and Herzegovina is a part of Europe and that there is no collective security without BiH,” he said.
The EU office in Sarajevo welcomed the news.
“This is an important step and one of the priorities before the European Council in March. Greater cooperation on border management is in the interests of both EU and BiH,” it said on X platform.
