We are here with our friends, to show solidarity and help the democratic world in the fight for elementary norms of the international law, Bosnia Presidency member told N1, speaking live from Kyiv where he and Presidency Chairman Zeljko Komsic met with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
“In terms of organisation, this is a demanding visit, because it is not simple to reach Kyiv these days,” he said.
Becirovic and Komsic arrived in the Ukrainian capital Wednesday morning, where they visited memorial sites and paid respect to the war victims.
“The meeting with Zelenskyy ended some 20 minutes ago. It was a cordial meeting and a friendly talk about the situation in Ukraine and Europe. I expressed the support of the vast majority of BiH citizens to the heroic and freedom-loving people of Ukraine. At this moment, it is important that all democratic states express full solidarity with the people of Ukraine, because this is also the struggle of the whole of Europe for a secure future,” he stressed.
Becirovic also said they used the opportunity to invite the President of Ukraine to visit BiH.
They are set to meet other senior officials in the following hours.
“We have a number of meetings scheduled for today. Tomorrow is also a busy day since it is the Independence Day of Ukraine,” he said.
Becirovic stressed it is important for BiH to have a clear stance in turbulent times.
“Everyone is invited to visit Ukraine, but the stances of the officials coming from Republika Srpska (Bosnia's Serb-majority part) are more or less known to people in BiH and in the international community,” said Becirovic, suggesting to the lack of support of the Bosnian Serb leadership to the sanctions against Russia.
Asked about the situation in Kyiv, Becirovic said that it is visible the country is in a war and that people are trying to live their lives as normal as possible.
“The situation hear is not peaceful, the country is faced with brutal aggression and all potentials are directed towards the defence of the country,” he said.
