Bosnia Presidency member Zeljko Komsic has unveiled the Flower of Srebrenica monument in the Italian northern town of Rogno, in memory of the events of July 1995 in Srebrenica.
Authorities of the town and the Bergamo province that are among others inhabited by residents of the Bosnian origin have provided support for the monument construction.
Komsic said on this occasion that the memorial will convey a message to the entire world and be a silent reminder of the innocence, pain and suffering, but also give hope that no human being can ever again become a victim of criminals.
“On behalf of the citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina who want peace, I would like to thank you on this expression of respect for the victims of genocide. This is a strong message that the evil committed against one group of people because of their name and origin is the evil against the whole of humanity, but at the same time it is also a message that we can resist crime and genocidal intentions only if we are united. This is a prerequisite for building a better world, based on the values of humanism, and cooperation between people and countries,” said Komsic.
He called on Europe and the rest of the humankind to learn a lesson from the Srebrenica genocide so that the violence that innocent people are exposed to today is stopped.
