Bosnia records continued decline in birth rate, IDDEEA data shows

Data from the Agency for Identification Documents, Registers and Data Exchange of Bosnia and Herzegovina (IDDEEA BiH) reveal a continued decline in the country’s birth rate between 2023 and 2025.

According to IDDEEA’s records, 33,156 children were born in Bosnia in 2023, while 32,421 births were registered in 2024.
As of October 27, 2025, the number of registered newborns stood at 23,663, marking a decrease of nearly 9,500 births compared to 2023.
The Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina continues to record the highest number of newborns (15,341), followed by Republika Srpska (7,738) and the Brcko District (584).

“These figures indicate a continued downward trend in the number of births in Bosnia and Herzegovina, representing an important indicator of the country’s demographic developments,” the agency said in its statement.
