Bosnia records growth in trade, foreign deficit remains high

In the first eight months of 2025 (January–August), Bosnia and Herzegovina’s exports reached 11.125 billion Bosnian marks (approximately €5.68 billion), marking a 5.7 percent increase compared to the same period last year, while imports totalled 19.661 billion marks (approximately €10.04 billion), up 3.8 percent.

The country’s export-to-import ratio stood at 56.6 percent, leaving a foreign trade deficit of 8.536 billion marks (approximately €4.36 billion), according to the BiH Statistics Agency.
Trade with the European Union remained the largest share of BiH’s foreign commerce. Exports to EU countries reached 8.171 billion marks (approximately €4.17 billion), a rise of 5.2 percent year-on-year, while imports totalled 11.429 billion marks (approximately €5.83 billion), increasing by 1.3 percent. The export-to-import ratio with the EU was 71.5 percent.
Meanwhile, exports to CEFTA member countries amounted to 1.934 billion marks (approximately €987 million), up 11.3 percent from the same period last year, while imports grew by 10.1 percent to 2.434 billion marks (approximately €1.24 billion). The export-to-import ratio with CEFTA countries stood at 79.5 percent.
