Bosnia records monthly and annual rise in consumer prices

Consumer prices in Bosnia and Herzegovina, as measured by the Consumer Price Index, rose by an average of 0.5 percent in February 2026 compared to the previous month. According to the BiH Agency for Statistics, the monthly increase was driven primarily by a 1.6 percent rise in alcoholic beverages and tobacco, followed by a 1.1 percent increase in housing and utility costs.

The report noted that food and non-alcoholic beverages saw a 0.5 percent uptick, while healthcare, transport, and the hospitality sector (restaurants and hotels) each experienced a 0.4 percent increase. On an annual basis, comparing February this year to the same month in 2025, the overall price level across the country surged by an average of 3.3 percent.
The most significant annual price hikes were observed in the following sectors:
- Housing and Utilities: 8.3 percent
- Restaurants and Hotels: 6.7 percent
- Healthcare: 6.2 percent
- Recreation and Culture: 4.6 percent
- Food and Non-alcoholic Beverages: 3.9 percent
- Alcoholic Beverages and Tobacco: 3.1 percent
Conversely, some sectors experienced an average annual decline in costs. Clothing and footwear prices dropped by 6.5 percent, while transport costs decreased by 3 percent compared to February of the previous year. These fluctuations reflect the ongoing economic adjustments within the domestic market as consumers navigate rising costs in essential services and utilities.
