Zeljko Komsic, the Croat member of Bosnian tripartite Presidency, said in Srebrenica on Tuesday, days prior to the July 11 commemoration for genocide victims, that the message to be conveyed from this place is that people here are “devoted to future” and “have no wish for revenge,” while they remember the horrors they went through.
He arrived in the company of Bosniak Presidency member Sefik Dzaferovic to attend one of the last meetings of the commemoration's organising committee.
“Dzaferovic and I are here as the Presidency members. The people who run this can count on the support of us both as the Presidency members and human support as long as we work the earth,” Komsic told media following the meeting.
He said it was a rare thing to hear that preparations for an event are over days before that event takes place but that it was also important that everything goes without any problems.
“It matters because of the place where we are, because of July 11 and because this day matters to people in BiH and the families of those who were killed during the July genocide. It matters because of BiH to convey a message from here – that people in their own pain are great and have dignity without a wish for revenge, that they are devoted to future, while remembering the horrors they went through,” said Komsic.
The 26th commemoration for the Srebrenica genocide victims will take place on July 11 at the Potocari Memorial Centre. Nineteen more identified victims will be buried this year in a mass ceremony.
The Organising Committee announced that the 26th commemoration for the victims will take place under the restrictions imposed during the epidemic. Officials will not be allowed to attend but will have an opportunity to send a video message, which will be played on commemoration day.
