Bosnian actor Fedja Stukan, who stars in the series "Sablja" about the assassination of Serbian Prime Minister Zoran Djindjic, stated that he only understood the methods of the Serbian Intelligence Agency, which the series is about, after being banned from entering Serbia.
Stukan told the newspaper “Danas” that, while preparing for his role as a police officer in the series “Sablja,” he met people who participated in the arrests and interrogations of members of the Zemun crime clan, which was involved in the 2003 assassination of Prime Minister Djindjic.
Among those convicted for Djindjic's assassination were members of the so-called Zemun Clan, as well as Milorad Ulemek Legija, one of the organizers, and Zvezdan Jovanovic, who shot the Prime Minister. Both were part of the notorious Special Operations Unit (JSO) within the Serbian State Security Department, which today operates as the Security Information Agency (BIA).
When asked about the functioning of BIA, Stukan recalled that he was expelled from Serbia the day after filming ended, which made him understand what “Sablja” was all about.
“These are the methods of the old State Security, just with a different name,” he emphasized.
Asked about the reactions he hopes the series “Sablja” will evoke from the audience, Stukan said he hopes people will realize that “change happens on the streets.”
“Don't wait for someone else to solve everything for you; you are the ones who can make big changes. Secondly, I hope people learn from the mistakes refreshed in the series, that these matters must be dealt with thoroughly, not halfway like before, but all the way through,” the actor concluded.
