A group of representatives from the Bosnian diaspora in Sweden has sent an open letter to the Swedish government, expressing deep concern over the ongoing political crisis in Bosnia and Herzegovina and urging immediate action to preserve peace and stability in the country.

The letter was addressed to Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson, Minister of Foreign Affairs Marija Malmer Stenergard, Minister for EU Affairs Jessica Rosencrantz, and Sweden’s Ambassador to Bosnia and Herzegovina, Helena Lagerlof. The authors of the letter warn that recent actions taken by the President of Republika Srpska, Milorad Dodik, pose a serious threat to Bosnia and Herzegovina’s constitutional order and represent a violation of the Dayton Peace Agreement.

“Dodik has been sentenced to one year in prison and banned from holding public office for six years due to his defiance of decisions made by the Office of the High Representative (OHR). In response, he has escalated his separatist activities, withdrawing Bosnian Serb representatives from state institutions and passing laws that undermine the jurisdiction of Bosnia and Herzegovina’s judicial and security institutions,” the letter states.

The authors warn that the situation could further deteriorate, endangering both Bosnia’s stability and broader regional relations. They also highlight that certain European countries, such as Hungary, have openly supported Dodik’s actions due to economic interests. Additionally, the letter points to Serbia’s backing of Dodik’s separatist initiatives and criticizes Croatia’s problematic stance towards Bosnia and Herzegovina.

In conclusion, the signatories urge the Swedish government to “take urgent and decisive measures to prevent further destabilization of Bosnia and Herzegovina” and protect European security. They also request a concrete response regarding Sweden’s planned steps to address the crisis.

The letter was signed by representatives of multiple Bosnian organizations in Sweden, including the Alliance of Bosnian Associations in Sweden, the Islamic Community of Bosniaks in Sweden, the Bosnian-Herzegovinian Women’s Alliance, and other relevant bodies.
