Addressing the European Commission's latest report, Konakovic emphasized that assessments indicating Bosnia and Herzegovina is drifting further from its European trajectory must be understood within the context of persistent blockades and secessionist actions by Alliance of Independent Social Democrats (SNSD) leader Milorad Dodik. He highlighted that Russia is actively exploiting the complexities of the Dayton system through political allies to undermine state institutions and impede the country's advancement toward European Union and NATO membership.
Konakovic identified the immediate adoption of two critical European laws as the primary priority for advancing the nation's EU accession process, which would subsequently clear the path for designating a chief negotiator. He asserted that accountability for stalled progress must be attributed strictly to those responsible for obstructing essential decision-making procedures.
Furthermore, he contrasted Dodik’s repeated visits to Moscow and public backing from Russian President Vladimir Putin with the absence of European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen from Bosnia and Herzegovina due to the election period, noting that these developments underscore the vital need for a sustained, active presence and robust support from European partners.
Emphasizing regional stability, the Minister declared that the Office of the High Representative (OHR) remains indispensable for upholding the Dayton Peace Agreement, maintaining constitutional order, and ensuring the operation of state bodies. He cautioned that any premature reduction of the High Representative's mandate or authority would generate additional vulnerabilities for destabilizing the country.
In closing, the Foreign Minister expressed gratitude for the United Kingdom’s enduring partnership and resolute support, making specific reference to London's firm response following the funeral of Ratko Mladic. He reiterated that upholding international judicial decisions and countering the glorification of convicted war criminals demand a unwavering, unified position from the global community.
