Bosnian furniture manufacturers successfully showcased their latest collections and forged new strategic partnerships at the IMM Cologne 2026 trade fair. Dinko Mujkic, President of the "Furniture and Wood" Wood Cluster in BiH, confirmed to FENA that the national delegation utilized a collective pavilion to maximize international exposure.

According to Mujkic, this year’s edition of IMM Cologne, a premier global event for the furniture and interior design industry, marked a significant departure from the expansive formats of previous years. The structural change influenced both the professional atmosphere and the methodology of business engagements.

"The emphasis this year shifted toward efficiency, high-impact networking, and addressing precise market demands," Mujkic stated. He also commended the Foreign Trade Chamber of BiH for its sustained commitment to organizing the joint participation of domestic enterprises.

Held from January 20 to 23, the fair occupied three halls rather than its traditional twelve, signalling a strategic pivot in the event's conceptual framework. Following a hiatus in 2025, the fair returned in a more streamlined format, featuring 339 exhibitors from 28 countries. Notably, Chinese manufacturers maintained a dominant presence with 252 exhibiting companies.

Despite the reduced footprint, the event attracted over 10,000 trade visitors from 104 nations, reinforcing its status as a vital hub for global procurement and professional exchange.

Exhibitors reported positive outcomes from the new structure. Mersad Djonlic, a manager at "Rattan Sedia," noted that the compact layout streamlined access to prospective buyers and provided clear logistical benefits. Similarly, Mirza Ramic, manager of the Fojnica-based company "Miam," affirmed that international trade fairs remain indispensable for client acquisition, confirming that BiH firms intend to maintain a strong presence at future events.

"Feedback regarding the smaller scale of IMM Cologne has been varied," Mujkic added. "Many exhibitors valued the refined, business-centric environment and the ease of making relevant international connections. Conversely, some missed the expansive exhibition spaces of the past, which traditionally offered a broader spectrum of products and inspiration. The significant presence of Chinese exhibitors also triggered discussions regarding market concentration and its potential impact on European manufacturers."

The next IMM Cologne is scheduled for January 19 to 22, 2027. In the interim, Bosnian companies are preparing to showcase their craftsmanship at the MOW fair in Bad Salzuflen from September 20 to 24, 2026, under the continued organization of the BiH "Furniture and Wood" Wood Cluster.
