A minor from the Bosnian town of Bileca was arrested on Thursday night, under the suspicion of committing the crime of attempted terrorism, Sinisa Laket, the head of the Trebinje Police Department, said at a press conference on Friday.
He pointed out that the police officers had operational knowledge that one or more persons were preparing a terrorist act against a high school in the Trebinje city area.
“Immediately upon learning the information, the special department for suppression of corruption, Organized Crime and the most serious form of economic crime was notified, under whose supervision certain investigative operations were carried out. The operations that were carried out led us to the person from Bileca, who is suspected of having committed the said criminal act,” Laketa said.
Later during the day, Laketa said that the situation in Trebinje schools “is absolutely safe and children can attend them,” and there is no room for any panic because the safety of any child was not at risk at any moment, after the arrest of the juvenile suspect.
He added that there was no room for real danger, stating that the minor was handed over to the competent prosecution.
“There was an announcement on the ‘Tik-tok’ social network that a terrorist attack was being prepared on one of the high schools in Trebinje and it was a plan in terms of a scheme and other evidence which was excluded by the police. We cannot say more because the investigation is ongoing,” Laketa noted.
He stressed that the security situation in the territory of Herzegovina was never threatened, but added that care must be taken that such things would not be an incentive for some other unwanted activities.
