Bosnian State police apprehended eight war crime suspects on Wednesday in five towns across the country, charged with crimes against the Bosniak population in the area of Nevesinje during 1992.

The suspects are former commanders of the Bosnian Serb army.

“The crimes refer to the murder of some 100 persons of the Bosniak ethnicity at the Zijemlje village, including dozens of women, the elderly, as well as a large number of children,” said the Prosecutor's Office.

Almost the entire families of Ploskic, Sipkovic, Alicic, Alibasic, Mahinic, Brajevic, Copelj and many other victims were killed in the series of murders.

“The remains of 49 people have been found, while the remains of 47 victims are still missing,” the prosecutors said.

The suspects will be handed over to the acting prosecutor within the legal deadline, and will undergo the interrogation and further procedure.

The members of the State and Protection and Investigation Agency (SIPA) conducted the arrests at the order of the Special Department for War Crimes.
