Bosnian unemployment rises slightly, women 60% of jobless

A total of 322,121 unemployed persons were registered in Bosnia in August 2025, marking a 0.4 percent increase compared to the previous month, according to the Agency for Statistics of BiH.

Of this total, 192,574 are women, who account for 59.8 percent of all unemployed persons in the country.
Compared to July 2025, the number of unemployed men remained unchanged, while the number of unemployed women rose by 0.6 percent.
An age-group analysis shows that the highest number of unemployed persons falls within the 50–59 age group, with 84,504 individuals. This is followed by the 40–49 age group (67,673) and the 30–39 age group (62,191). The lowest unemployment rate is among young people aged 15 to 24, totalling 32,463.

When viewed by gender, the largest number of unemployed are among men are also aged 50–59 (38,262), while the fewest are aged 25–29 (11,271). Among women, the highest unemployment is recorded in the 50–59 age group (46,242), and the lowest among those aged 15–24 (17,230).
By education level, the largest group of unemployed persons are those with higher or qualified professional education (VKV and KV) – 100,678 individuals. They are followed by unskilled workers (NK), totalling 91,841, and those with secondary education (SSS), numbering 91,648.
The data indicate a slight monthly rise in unemployment, with a continued predominance of women among job seekers, and notable disparities across age and education categories.
