The President of the Aluminij Industries Management Board, Amir Gross-Kabiri, Told FENA News Agency on Sunday that he expects Aluminij to once again become the largest Bosnian exporter in 2021. He stressed that he would ensure that Aluminij is the leading manufacturing company in BiH in the coming decades.

“Thanks to our dedicated workers and the unanimous support of all levels of government, especially the Government of the Federation (FBiH) entity, we have been able to restore Aluminij's stability. We are now ready for the next phase, such as the development of production opportunities, for partially finished products, while increasing the foundry’s production capacity to 150,000 MT per year. During the next month, we will have more than 200 workers and we support hundreds of business entities in BiH. We expect that in 2021 we will be listed again as the largest exporter in BiH,” Kabiri said.

Electricity has always been a key factor for Aluminij. Kabiri announced that in order to further expand the scope of the project and collaborate M.T. Abraham Group intends to invest in renewable energy power plants, ensuring a stable and affordable electricity supply that will meet the needs of the plant, while remaining true to Aluminij's commitment to promoting sustainability and environmental awareness and responsibility.

“We’ve joined forces with our strategic partner, CMEC, and we will build power plants using renewable energy sources, solar and wind, to provide Aluminij with the full capacity of electricity needed for the foundry and anode plant,” Kabiri noted.

After suffering extensive property destruction during the war in the early 1990s, Aluminij Industrija resumed operation in 1997 with the support of the Croatian government but stopped production in July 2019 after incurring a debt of €220 million.

The government of Bosnia and Herzegovina's Federation entity and workers each hold 44 percent of shares in the company, while the remaining 12 percent is held by Croatia's government.

In spring this year, the Federation government approved a business cooperation agreement with the Israeli-Chinese consortium, led by M.T. Abraham Group, to lease the Mostar-based aluminium smelter.
