Bosnia's Becirovic discusses Srebrenica genocide Resolution with UN Special Advisor

Bosnia and Herzegovina's Presidency Chairman Denis Becirovic, met with Alice Wairimu Nderitu, UN Under-Secretary and Special Advisor for Genocide Prevention, at the UN headquarters in New York.

They discussed the global importance of the recently adopted UN Resolution on the International Day of Commemoration and Remembrance of the 1995 Srebrenica Genocide. Both highlighted that the Resolution strengthens truth and justice, with the UN set to mark the Srebrenica genocide anniversary for the first time next year.

As the 30th anniversary approaches, they stressed the need for proper preparations within the UN to ensure a dignified commemoration in line with the adopted Resolution. Becirovic emphasized the importance of preserving the truth about the genocide and condemned any denial. He called on Nderitu to support the implementation of the Resolution, particularly in integrating historical facts into member states’ educational programs.

Nderitu reaffirmed the UN's commitment to respecting court rulings and obligations under the UN Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of Genocide, noting the importance of preserving the truth about Srebrenica.
