The Director of the BiH Border Police, Mirko Kupresakovic, met with the UNHCR Representative in BiH, Lucie Gagne, and her colleagues in Sarajevo on Wednesday.

The officials exchanged information about the current situation regarding migrants and asylum seekers and the problems BiH Border Police officers face daily at the state border, the Border Police said.

Gagne pointed out that the UNHCR cooperates with all organizational units of the BiH Border Police and supports their work.

Director Kupresakovic pointed out that, in addition to the measures and actions they take to preserve the security of the border and the citizens of BiH, the police officers treat illegal migrants in accordance with the laws of BiH and international humanitarian law.

He added that the BiH Border Police will continue to actively participate in UNHCR's projects related to vulnerable categories of migrants and asylum seekers.

Kupresakovic thanked the UNHCR for its support in the development of this police agency, especially in the segment of training on protection during the application process and the general protection of refugees and asylum seekers.
