The Border Police of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH BP) thwarted two separate attempts to smuggle 14 migrants of Afro-Asian origin on Tuesday in the Bijeljina region.
The first incident occurred during a routine border check in Velino Selo, where officers found ten foreign nationals crammed into two passenger vehicles with Bosnian license plates. Shortly after, in Trnjaci, officers discovered four more foreign nationals in another vehicle with local plates.
Upon questioning, the migrants claimed to be from Afghanistan but were unable to provide any identification documents. Both vehicles were driven by Bosnian citizens, who are now under investigation for human smuggling.
The case has been referred to the Prosecutor’s Office of BiH. Authorities ordered searches, seized evidence, and interrogated the drivers. A formal report on human smuggling will be submitted to the Prosecutor's Office. The migrants have been handed over to the Service for Foreigners’ Affairs of BiH for further proceedings.
