The trade union consumer basket for November 2024, as reported by the Federation of Independent Trade Unions of Bosnia and Herzegovina, amounts to 3,107.50 Bosnian marks (€1,588).
According to the most recent data from the FBiH Statistics Institute, the average salary in the Federation of BiH for September 2024 was 1,369 marks (€700), while the minimum wage, set by the FBiH Government, stands at 619 marks (€317).
This means the average salary covers only 44.05 percent of the consumer basket, and the minimum wage covers just 19.92 percent.
The calculation of the consumer basket is based on the minimum living costs for a four-member family—two adults and two children, one in high school and the other in elementary school. It takes into account the average salary and is divided into several categories: food (44.17 percent), housing and utilities (13.95 percent), hygiene and healthcare (9.12 percent), education and culture (10.30 percent), clothing and footwear (11.58 percent), transportation (4.44 percent), and household maintenance (6.44 percent).
For the food category, prices of 86 items were collected from three retail centers. Hygiene and healthcare costs were calculated using prices for ten items, while housing and utility costs were based on six specific expenses. These details were shared by the Federation of Independent Trade Unions of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
