The government of Bosnia's Federation entity will seek for solutions to mitigate the consequences of the global energy crisis which greatly affected Bosnia and Herzegovina as well as its citizens, entity energy minister Nermin Dzindic told media following the meeting of the FBiH government representatives with the representatives of Sarajevo Canton public utility companies.

“We held a similar meeting last yeart and agreed on some matters that have not been finalised. We should do so in the near future so we can find a solution to the winter season,” said the minister.

As one of the solutions they reached in the meeting is a plan to build additional gas storage in Kladanj and Butile settlements, and making efforts so that citizens are not forced into use of other energy sources that would further pollute the air.

Dzindic also announced the government's electricity charges subsidies for the socially vulnerable categories of population. This will likely include the amount of 25 marks (approx 17 euros) per household with “certain limitations in terms of consumption.”

According to him, one similar model has been porposed to the cantonal authorities as well.

“We have scheduled a working meeting for August 2 and by then we will agree on which model we are going to apply. We have information that we have a safe and stable supply. What's uncertain are the prices and we don't know what will happen by the end of the year. Electricity will certainly not become more expensive because this is an eenrgy source produced by the Federation BiH,” he stressed.

Sarajevo Canton prime minister Edin Forto noted that the price increase that hit the country require an adequate response of all levels of authority.

“There are two lines of action that will be operational, namely the security of delivery in the winter period and the price itself. The fact is that this is an attack on all households and on the social security of fellow citizens,” said the prime ministerr, adding that cantonal authorities will hold an urgent meeting and start preparing plans for possible additional price increases.
