Bosnia and Herzegovina’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Elmedin Konakovic delivered a significant speech at the 31st OSCE Ministerial Council, thanking the organisation for its hospitality and reflecting on a challenging year for global security.

Konakovic praised the OSCE’s leadership amid escalating conflicts within its region, calling for an immediate end to violence and renewed dialogue to achieve peace. Highlighting Bosnia’s consistent support for international law, he joined calls urging Russia to halt its violations of Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Shifting focus to the Middle East, Konakovic expressed concern over the crises in Gaza and Lebanon, stressing the urgent need for decisive action to restore peace and avert further violence. He encouraged OSCE member states to adopt a spirit of compromise, ensuring the organisation’s continued relevance in safeguarding European security.

The foreign minister commended the OSCE’s emphasis on economic and environmental security, noting that issues like resource scarcity and environmental degradation exacerbate tensions, displace communities, and undermine stability. He called for strengthened cooperation to address these interconnected challenges effectively.

Looking ahead, Konakovic acknowledged the complexities posed by geopolitical tensions, frozen conflicts, and emerging security threats. However, he expressed confidence in the OSCE’s ability to navigate these challenges through collective action.

In closing, Konakovic congratulated Finland on its upcoming OSCE Chairmanship in 2025, extended his best wishes to Minister Elina Valtonen, and pledged Bosnia and Herzegovina’s full support during this critical period.
