Bosnia’s Grand Mufti: Every innocent life is sacred, no child's blood is more or less valuable

Humanity is faced with an escalation of violence in Gaza that threatens to cause one of the greatest disasters of our time. Every innocent life is sacred and every violence deserves condemnation. There is no child's blood, mother's pain or innocent life that is more or less valuable, Bosnia’s Grand Mufti Husein Kavazovic said in a Friday sermon.

“Today, unfortunately, we are witnessing hypocrisy that threatens the very moral foundations of humanity. Scenes of horror succeed one another. Appeals coming from all over the world for a peaceful resolution of the conflict and the return of dialogue cannot be heard over the deafening explosions, unprincipled policies and media fueling of violence,” Kavazovic said in a sermon that was read in all Bosniak mosques in the country and abroad, Anadolu Agency reports.

“One violence is justified by another, even greater and more horrific violence. It is impossible to find any logical or moral justification for the mindless desire for destruction. Demands for justice are surpassed by calls for revenge. Not even the solidarity with civilian victims is allowed,” the sermon states.

The Grand Mufti noted that the Holy Qur'an recalls the moral principles that members of the human race are obliged to follow regardless of where and when they live their earthly lives, citing the 90th verse of the Qur'anic Surah “An-Nahl”, which states:

“Allah demands that everyone's rights be respected, that good be done, and that it be shared with others, while debauchery and all that is disgusting and violent is forbidden; to receive this instruction, He counsels you.”

“Once he firmly decides to live according to the precepts of his religion, a Muslim must be the last defender of justice. This means that every Muslim must be with the subjugated and disenfranchised – whether they are Muslims or not,” the sermon states, emphasizing that “Prophet Muhammad pbuh told his companions that they cannot be neutral when it comes to supporting justice and opposing oppression”.

Kavazovic emphasized that the Islamic community will do everything in its modest power to “help our brothers and sisters in Palestine with humanitarian aid and with our position that we are expressing publicly. We will remain committed to building peace in our homeland and advocating for peace and justice everywhere in the world. A just peace is the only guarantee that the evil of war, destruction and injustice will be stopped in the Holy Land of God's messengers and prophets”.
