The Assembly of the Islamic Community of Bosnia and Herzegovina supported the initiative for the adoption of the UN General Assembly Resolution designating July 11 as the International Day of Remembrance and Commemoration of the Srebrenica Genocide of 1995, at Saturday’s session in Sarajevo.

In the Declaration on the Initiative for the Adoption of the UN General Assembly Resolution, the MPs assessed that the adoption of such a resolution at the highest international level strengthens international law and prevents the repetition of systemic violations of international criminal law and the crime of genocide.

The Assembly believe that the adoption of the Resolution on the Srebrenica genocide creates the conditions for stable and lasting peace in the world, especially in the region, as well as the basis for building trust on the principles of truth and justice.

“I think that all of us and the international community have reason to be concerned when we hear from the highest state officials in BiH and Serbia the threat of violence and war if the Resolution is adopted that has no political implications, nor does it assign collective guilt to anyone. The expected adoption of the resolution will establish the foundations of preserving the truth about the genocide in BiH, and the re-building of trust and peace on the foundations of truth and justice,” said the Grand Mufti Husein Kavazovic, MINA said.
