Bosnia's National Library staff blocked from delivering City Hall petition to Sarajevo Mayor

The delegation, led by library director Adisa Zero, sought to present the document calling for the institution's return to City Hall and a permanent funding solution. However, Deputy Mayor Mirela Dzehverovic informed the group that she lacked authorisation to accept correspondence addressed directly to the mayor, directing them instead to lodge the paperwork through the official registry office at Skenderija.

The petition, which has gathered signatures from supporters across twenty-one countries, will now be officially filed before being forwarded to key state institutions including the Council of Ministers, the Parliamentary Assembly, the State Attorney General, and the Office of the High Representative.

Library leadership maintains that the mayor remains the sole authority capable of deciding on the institution's return to the historic landmark, a building the library could potentially share with the City Administration.

Deputy Mayor Dzehverovic expressed personal and party support for the initiative, arguing that the ongoing absence of a systemic funding framework for the library should not prevent its return to City Hall.

Academician Esad Durakovic, who authored the petition, also backed the cause during the visit, describing the unresolved housing and funding crisis that has persisted for thirty-four years as a broader assault on fundamental human and civilisational values.

Earlier in the day, the delegation laid a wreath outside City Hall to commemorate four library staff members killed between 1992 and 1993: Adela Leota, Aida Buturovic, Mirko Azinovic, and Ante-Slavko Kovacic.
