Nova Banka, owned by the Bosnian company MG Mind, has bought the subsidiary of the Russian Sberbank in Banjaluka, the administrative centre of BiH’s semi-autonomous Republika Srpska (RS) entity.

This was confirmed by the deputy director of the RS Banking Agency, Srdjan Suput.

“We finished and agreed on everything 45 minutes ago, the Agency made the decision to sell Sberbank to Nova Banka Banjaluka. The process started on Monday, it was not easy amid the crisis and the sanctions. We managed to find a strategic partner. As of tomorrow, the bank has a new owner,” Suput said.

After the initial idea for Republika Srpska to take over Sberbank, the investor, Nova Banka, addressed the Agency and expressed interest in taking over Sberbank Banjaluka.

“The details of the transaction are part of a trade secret. We protected capital, depositors, a physical and legal company, but also 400 employees,” said Suput, without revealing who else was interested in buying the shares.

On Tuesday, the local ASA Bank also bought the subsidiary of the Russian Sberbank in Bosnia's other entity, the Federation (FBiH).
