Bosnia’s best cyclist Lejla Njemcevic won the World Cup in the marathon, in Nove Mesto na Morava in Czechia with a dominant ride, recording one of the most important victories in her career.

The Bosnian competitor crossed the finish line after five hours and 25 minutes on the 120-kilometre course.

The second place went to Lithuania’s Katazina Sosna with a gap of two minutes and 46 seconds, while the third place was taken by Irina Luetzelschwab from Switzerland with a gap of three minutes and 31 seconds behind the winner.

“It's a really special feeling to take the victory in Nove Mesto na Morava and this is definitely my favourite victory so far. I am especially happy with my form considering that the track with a lot of flat parts did not suit me completely. After the fall, I rode a section of the course carefully so I could recover. After I caught up with the group, I attacked it on the hill and my attack was followed by Janina Wust. However, at the end of the race I increased my pace, broke away and crossed the finish line first,” Njemcevic said.

With the victory, Lejla registered a new 250 UCI points for the world ranking list and was presented with the leader's shirt in the World Series standings. The next race for the Bosnian competitor is the World Cup in Italy, 100 kilometres long course with 3,700 meters of ascent.
