Bundestag member Josip Juratovic said he was not surprised by the decision of High Representative in Bosnia and Herzegovina Christian Schmidt to impose changes to Bosnia's electoral legislation on the election night, and that his move was timely made.

“I am not surprised, he is a democrat of German calibre. He does his job consistently. Even before his arrival, I said that he is a man who works quietly but systematically and does not give up,” Juratovic told N1, commenting on the decision that the international peace envoy passed on Sunday, hours after the polling stations were closed in the country, amending the Election Law of Bosnia and Herzegovina as well as the Constitution of the Federation BiH, one of two country's semi-autonomous entities.

Juratovic dismissed the allegations that Schmidt did that in favour of Croatia or at proposal of Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic, calling it a “nonsense.”

Commenting on the outcome of the October 2 general election in Bosnia and Herzegovina, he said that social-democracy in BiH is alive and has its future.

“In a campaign where the struggle is about national interests, it is clear that the social democrats cannot achieve a great result. I hope this will change and that they will take Bosnia and herzegovina towards the changes,” he stressed.
