The coronavirus situation in Sarajevo Canton is becoming more complicated and we think that the numbers of patients will continue to rise in the coming period, warned doctor Ednan Drljevic, the Head of the Infectious Diseases Department of the Sarajevo General Hospital and a member of the Crisis Staff of the Sarajevo Canton Ministry of Health in the Tuesday interview with Anadolu agency.
He pointed out that the pressure has been extremely high when it comes to the number of people suffering from coronavirus over the past seven days.
Since the delta strain is increasingly taking precedence among new patients, Drljević spoke about its rapid spread.
“Our experience is still modest. We still have, or we had about twenty days ago, half and half, or half was British, and the other half the Delta strain of coronavirus. But what we can notice is probably due to the vaccination of the older population that there are more and more younger patients, ie middle-aged and younger generations among the patients. Also, that there is a huge number of unvaccinated patients. These are our experiences based on this situation that we have at hand,” said Drljevic.
He warned that the fourth wave of coronavirus in BiH has begun.
Drljevic also talked about the symptoms, as well as the clinical image of new patients infected with the delta strain.
“We have tightened the criteria for hospitalization, so now we hospitalize only these difficult and critical patients. We also hospitalized moderately severe patients earlier. But, now we see that there are a lot of them and for now we have tightened the admission criteria. It is very difficult to compare this with the previous situation, considering that the younger and middle-aged patients are now affected who are mostly newly infected patients,” he told Anadolu Agency, among other things.
