Herzegovina-Neretva Canton’s (HNK) government strongly condemns the latest incidents of vandalism in the Neum municipality, starting with the desecration and breaking of stone crosses in the yard of the Church of St. Anto to writing offensive and completely unacceptable inscriptions in several locations there.

”Both of these incidents aim to create unrest among Neum residents and draw attention to this peaceful town on our coast in an extremely negative context. We unconditionally condemn and uncompromisingly reject these obvious attempts to impose the label of “case city” on Neum, our true tourist pearl and in which the cantonal executive and legislative authorities see an exceptional potential that we help to fully exploit. On this occasion, we strongly encourage our investigative bodies, that is, the Ministry of the Interior and the Prosecutor's Office of our county, will use all available means to track down the perpetrators, but also, raise the level of security, to prevent the repetition of such and similar heinous acts that in normal and civilized places such as Neum are unacceptable,” HNK Prime Minister, Marija Buhac, is stressed.

The statement added that the Government was informed by the relevant Minister of the Interior, Marijo Maric, that the Police officers did obvious actions in both cases and that they are doing their job to protect the security and peace in Neum, i.e. among its residents and guests, and to support them accordingly with their powers and authorities, provided by local and cantonal authorities.
